Grade 8 Computers Mr. McDowell

Scientific Method  The Scientific Method is an organized way of figuring something out. There are usually six parts…

Purpose/Question  What do you want to learn?  What is the color distribution in different sized packages of M&Ms?

Research  Find out as much as you can. Look for information in books, on the internet, and by talking with teachers to get the most information you can before you start experimenting.  The M&M/Mars Company (company that makes M&Ms) says that the color distribution is 30% brown, 20% yellow, 20% red, and 10% each of orange, green, and blue.

Hypothesis  After doing research, try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is “educated guess”.  What is your hypothesis about the color distribution in packages of M&Ms?

Experiment  The testing of your hypothesis to see if it is correct.

Analysis  Record what happened during the experiment by inputting data into an Excel spreadsheet.

Conclusion  Review the data and check to see if your hypothesis was correct.
