Special Education Action Team Accommodations

Our Charge  Develop common definitions of accommodations  Develop process for IEP teams to tailor accommodations  Develop strategies and structures to ensure general educators and special educators know what accommodations are needed/required and have the resources to implement them.

What We Did  Developed definitions  Accommodation  Modification  Adaptation  Next Steps  Who needs to see/approve this?  AC, Supt. Council, SSD Admin  Roll it out to all staff for use in IEP meetings, Care Team and 504

What We Did  Discussed Best Teaching Practices vs. Accommodations  What should be guaranteed in gen. ed. classroom and what should be guaranteed in IEP?  Tailor (describe in details) the general accommodations terms.  Next Step  How do we guarantee best teaching is provided in ALL Parkway classrooms?  How to communicate these guarantees to parents?

What We Did  Developed an Accommodations Discussions Guide  To be used by IEP teams when determining accommodations for each student  Next Steps  1 st DRAFT  Need input from others, such as IEP chairs  What other groups need to review before document is finalized?

More Work to Do  Best Practices for ALL  Learning Principles  Discuss the way accommodations are documented in IEP’s  Require detailed definition/explanation of each somewhere on IEP?  Can/should the current IEP accommodations page format be changed?  How to monitor implementation of accommodations in general education  How should teachers document implementation/provision of accommodations in their classroom  E-folio?

Overlap with Other Groups  Strategies and Structures for all knowing what accommodations are required/needed and the resources to implement.  Process  Professional Development  Programs/Structures
