A SECONDARY SOURCE is a secondhand account about people, events, topics or places that is based on what some other writer has experienced. Good examples of SECONDARY SOUCES are books, newspapers, pamphlets, encyclopedias and other materials in which information has been gathered for you.

An artifact is any object made by human beings.

A primary source is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study. It is an original source or first-hand account of information. Examples include: Diaries and Journals Letters and Memos Books or articles written at the time of the event Photographs Maps (from the time period) Any of the above reprinted in the original format and language
