3 Federal Aviation Administration AAtS FY11 Demo Activities May 5 th, 2011 AAtS Overview Connect NAS services enabled by FAA’s System Wide Information Management (SWIM) to aircraft –Improve situational awareness for aircraft by facilitating dissemination of operational & supplementary NAS information via the SWIM based network –Only SWIM-enabled NAS services will be available via AAtS –Not intended for uses that will directly effect the trajectory of the aircraft Initial AAtS Concept –Will utilize existing NAS and aircraft infrastructure –The FAA will not be acquiring a specific infrastructure to support the deployment of AAtS. –Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) used to display NAS information in aircraft (e.g., Class II PED or iPad)

4 Federal Aviation Administration AAtS FY11 Demo Activities May 5 th, 2011 Notional AAtS Architecture (initial) One way Product based Proprietary NAS Systems SWIM TFMS CIWS TDDS ITWS WMSCR AIM Future Service ERAM Future Service NESG Operator (e.g., 121 transport carrier) Value added Service Provider (VASP) Exchange Service Value added Service Provider (VASP) Broadcast Service LEGEND Wireless transmission Dedicated telecom + VPN backup VPN via internet TCP/IP Capable transmission medium (VPN Continuity)

5 Federal Aviation Administration AAtS FY11 Demo Activities May 5 th, 2011 NAS Data Elements Possible NAS Data for AAtS dissemination include: ‒ Flight delays ‒ Flight planning information ‒ Alternate Routing information ‒ Traffic management information ‒ Airport info (e.g., runway configuration & status) ‒ NOTAMs ‒ Temporary flight restrictions (TFR) & special activity airspace (SAA) ‒ Weather
