{ Colorado State Bird Lesson Achieve K-12 Art/ Mr. Blum

The Lark Bunting was adopted as the official state bird on April 29, The Lark Bunting is a migrant bird. Flocks arrive in April and inhabit the plains regions and areas up to 8,000 feet in elevation. They fly south again in September.

The male bird is black with snowy white wing patches and edgings, tail coverts and outer tail feathers. In winter the male bird changes to a gray brown like the female bird, however the chin remains black and the black belly feathers retain white edgings.

{ Materials The materials you will need are: One Large piece of paper One small piece of black paper Scissors Markers/ or crayons Brown paint & a sponge or paint brush

Step by Step Process 1. Draw the birdhouse with a SQUARE/ TRIANGLE/ CIRCLE/ & RECTANGLE 2. Use crayons or markers to fill in the background with FLOWERS, TREES, & THE SUN/ CLOUDS.

To paint the birdhouse: Use the brown paint and sponge – PRESS AND LIFT THE SPONGE –DO NOT DRAG THE SPONGE LIKE A BRUSH. If using a brush then normal brush technique is ok.

Paint the entire birdhouse then let the paint dry for at least an hour or even overnight.

To make your Colorado State bird use the black paper and white crayon. 1.Draw a big circle for the body and a small circle for the head 2.Draw the wings and beak with triangles 3.And a small circle or dot for the eye

Carefully cut your bird out of the black paper.

AFTER THE PAINT IS DRY Use your black marker to add details to the birdhouse

Turn your bird over and put a small amount of glue around the edges.

Position your bird on your picture and press down on it until the glue dries enough to hold it in place.

Use your black marker to draw a legs and a perch for the bird to land on / you can place your bird anywhere in your picture that you want to.

Finished Now that you have completed your Colorado State bird please upload a photo of your work And remember you can always alter the project to fit the materials you have available. If you want you can go back and fill in more flowers or details on the birdhouse.
