Name Date Class Heart Rate Lab 1

Problem/ Question How does music with different tempos and beats affect your heart rate?

Hypothesis Write your educated guess to the question.

Materials Stereo Hard Rock song Classical Music song Rhythm and Blues song Reggae Song Country Song

Procedure With partner; sit still, eyes closed for 5 minutes to establish resting heart rate. After timer goes off test resting heart rate. Test heart rate by counting the number of beats in 10 second period of time. Multiply number of beats by 6 and record in data table.

Procedure 5. After resting rate we will begin playing music with different tempos and beats. 6. We will test heart rate after the song has played for 3 minutes. 7. Record each rate in data table. 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each song 9. Now we switch and you check your partner.

Procedure 10. Once your team is done and data is collected. Gather data from the team next to you.

Data table You Team mate Neighbor 1 Neighbor 2 Neigh bor 3 Resting Hard Rock Classical Rhythm and Blues Reggae Country

Graph I am not going to give you any hints, you and your teammate or you on your own need to create the graph.

Conclusion Make sure you answer all of these questions in your conclusion. Can you conclude that one type of music caused pulse rates to increase more than others? Was there a difference between girls and boys when you compared their heart rates? How does the graph help you make these conclusions?
