Why CountrySTAT is important for ECO? Because it is a system of harmonization, integration and dissemination of Statistics including agricultural statistics of good quality, readily available on the web to provide decision support and formulation of development policies based on reliable, complete and current.

What is the main objective? The main objective of this project is to provide technical support to the Governments in improving the delivery and access to the statistics of food and agriculture in good quality through the establishment and development of ECO CountrySTAT system to meet the data requirements for the implementation and piloting of national plans and programs of agricultural development.

Other Objectives of CountrySTAT include:  A system of harmonization, integration and dissemination of statistics and agricultural statistics from various sources.  A quick and easy one-stop web-based data of good quality statistics to provide decision support and formulation of development policies based on reliable data.  To standardize data from multiple sources and integrate them into a common platform CountrySTAT, enabling archiving, wide dissemination and use of statistics.  The need to establish a single readily accessible on the web for good quality statistical data for analysis to provide decision support and development policies based on facts.  The need for technical capacity of national staff.  The acquisition of technical infrastructure (computers, servers and software)

CountrySTAT for sectoral and thematic areas will:  Allow to create a database of national statistics including food and agriculture;  To facilitate collaboration, sharing and exchanging data;  To ensure the archiving and dissemination of data;  Respond to requests for complex data from different fields;  Allow the exchange of data within the country, between countries and FAO and the Member States of FAO;  Develop food balance sheets;  Update and enable the monitoring of indicators on food security.

FAO Approach in Implementing CountrySTAT for ECO and ECO member States FAO will go for a comprehensive Regional CountrySTAT Project appraoch covering all of the 10 ECO Member Countries namely:Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan

Steps to take: The following Six steps will be taken when implementing CountrySTAT in ECO and ECO member countries

Step 1 Stakeholder meetings at regional level, consultation missions, establish a ECO- STAT Secretariat.

Step 2 Selection and establishment of four pilot countries, training of ECO + 5 success countries. May be: Iran (ECO headquarters), Turkey (major donor and FAOSEC), Kazakhstan (regional technical leader), Kyrgzstan (some CountrySTAT experiences Turkmenistan/ Uzbekistan

Step 3 Launch of ECO-STAT and four national CountrySTATs.

Step 4 Expansion to the remaining five countries. Training with trained-regional trainers. Focus on sub-national data.

Step 5 Expansion to the remaining five countries. Training with trained- regional trainers. Focus on national data.

Step 6 Expansion to all ten countries. Training with trained-regional trainers. Focus on regional and international data exchange.
