Japanese Whaling *Hand harping began in Japan as early as the 12 th century. *Following World War II it became a cheap source of protein when Japan was impoverished. Canada Harp Seal Hunt

Competition There is a competition with sealers to kill as many seals before they are gone. In 2008, there were sealers all along the long liners on the front,( which is known as the second part of the hunt which is located of the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador), and they finished there ration of seals within TWO DAYS.
