1.In All Summer in a Day, all the students, except Margot, reveled in the sun’s rays. It had been seven years since they last saw the sun, and they could hardly contain their joy as they ran around in the bright sun. However, their excitement quickly ____________ as a girl opened her hand to reveal a single rain drop. This meant that another seven years of rain was soon to follow.

2. Leo had a crush on Stargirl from the start of the novel, but after she changed to Susan and became so “magnificently, wonderfully, gloriously ordinary,” he seemed to fall completely head over heels in love with her, and _____________________ at the very thought of her. He even went so far as to call himself Mr. Susan Caraway!

3. Jan decided that she wanted to have her birthday party outside rather than inside this year, even knowing that April can be a fairly rainy month. She __________________ scheduled the party for the first weekend in April, but repeatedly checked the weather forecast so she could reschedule it just in case it did end up raining.

4. After Thursday’s pep rally, students were excited about the last football game of the season. The sixth graders had just won two days of open lunch, so ______________ was at an all time high. Things were really going great this school year!

5. From the start of the novel, Stargirl has a very _____________________ way of doing things. Between her long flowing dresses, ukulele strapped to her back and pet rat Cinnamon tucked away in her sunflower bag, she certainly doesn’t fit in with the other students at Mica High.

6. They gym was packed to its capacity during Thursday’s pep rally since all three grade levels were in attendance. When I tried to leave it was so crowded that I had to _______________ my way through the sea of students, athletes and cheerleaders.

7. The students were devastated after last night’s football team. After a seven game winning streak, their star quarterback got into a fight with someone on the other team. He was suspended for the rest of the season. Since most of the students saw this as being his own fault, he was __________ by the student body, and blamed for ending their winning streak.

8. Jan talks constantly in class, causing her to often miss important instruction. If Jan studied for her tests with the same amount of __________________ that she has for talking, she would probably have an “A” in class.

9 and 10. Jan ___________________ the new birthday outfit that her grandmother bought for her, but didn’t have the heart to say anything. Rather than letting her grandmother see the _________________ look on her face, Jan smiled and thanked her grandmother instead, all the while wondering when, if ever, she would wear it.
