prime number Math A number that has exactly two factors: 1 and itself (the number) 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and13 are all prime numbers because they have only two factors.
exclamatory sentence English A sentence that expresses strong feelings by making an exclamation. An exclamatory sentence ends in an exclamation mark. (!) Sentence: –I can’t believe it! Reading and writing actually paid off!
civilization Social Studies A complex society with cities, government and a writing system The Stone Age was not a civilization because they had no cities, government or writing system.
hypothesis Science scientific explanation that you think may be true and that can be tested An experiment is designed to test a hypothesis.
