Colons : Colons are used in the following situations: 1. Introduction of a definition - People: (noun) human beings, as distinguished from animals or other beings. 2. For explanations: - I will tell you how to eat with your mouth closed: close your mouth then chew.
3. Between the title and the sub title of a book or article: - Star Wars: Attack of the Clones 4. To show lists or series that follow: - The Semi-finals are to be held at the following grounds: Patterson Park and Sam Davis Park.

Between independent clauses linked with a phrase or a conjunctive adverb - I like to eat pigs; however, I don't like to be eaten by them.
Semi- Colons ; 3. To separate series of items containing commas: - Several fast food restaurants can be found in each of Sydney, Australia; Melbourne, Australia; Los Vegas, U.S.A; and Auckland, New Zealand.
