The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Welcome to St. Peter! Today begins the greatest of all weeks: Holy Week. There is no better place to be than in God’s house to receive Jesus as our King. Later this week, we look in on Jesus and his disciples at their first communion in the Upper Room receiving Jesus’ body and blood.

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row of chairs. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Prayer before Worship We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you saved us through your Son, Jesus. As he was acclaimed by those who scattered their garments and branches of palms in his path, lead us to worship him as our Savior and King today. In his name, we pray. Amen

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

OUR COMMUNION PRACTICE In the Sacrament of Holy Communion, Jesus gives us his true body and blood. We express unity with our Savior and those who share our faith and stand on the teachings of God’s Word. Therefore, we invite to our altar those who are members of our church or the WELS. Visitors and guests who wish to commune are asked to speak to a pastor before the service begins.

All Glory, Laud, and Honor CW #131 Verses 1-5 Text: Theodulf of Orléans, Setting: VALET WILL ICH DIR GEBEN Tune: Melchior Teschner, , alt.

Verse 1: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. You are the King of Israel And David's royal Son, Now in the Lord's name coming, Our King and blessed one.

Verse 2: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. The company of angels Is praising you on high, And we with all creation In chorus, make reply.

Verse 3: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. The people of the Hebrews With palms before you went; Our praise and prayer and anthems Before you we present.

Verse 4: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. To you before your passion They sang their hymns of praise; To you, now high exalted, Our melody we raise.

Verse 5: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. As you received their praises, Accept the prayers we bring, O Source of ev'ry blessing, Our good and gracious King.

Opening Verses Pastor: We worship together in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Pastor: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.

Confession of Sin Pastor: As Christians, we trust Scripture as complete truth. God’s Word moves believers to take their sins to him by confessing them.

Confession of Sin All: In Matthew chapter 3 verse 6, it says: “Confessing their sins, they were baptized by John in the Jordan River.”

Confession of Sin All: In Acts chapter 19 verse 18, it says: “Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.”

Confession of Sin All: In James chapter 5 verse 16, it says: “Confess your sins to each other.”

Confession of Sin Pastor: As believers in the Triune God, let us confess our sins to him. All: For the times we have not welcomed you or your Word—and the times we have resisted it— Lord, have mercy on us.

Confession of Sin All: When our mouths have not given true Hosannas, but have been muted and silent—Christ have mercy on us.

Confession of Sin All: For all the moments we have been selfish and unwilling to spread our goods before you – unlike the people who placed their cloaks before you when you entered Jerusalem— Lord have mercy on us.

Confession of Sin Pastor: God has placed the full payment of sin on our Savior Jesus. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Be at peace with God.

Confession of Sin All: God’s Word is truth. I am forgiven by his blood, and his child through baptism. God knows me by name and loves me. Hosanna in the highest!

Prayer of the Day Pastor: (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Isaiah 45:22-25 Jesus is King and we bow before Him in humble majesty

God’s Word to His People Philippians 2:5-11 The same homage due a king is due Christ, the King

God’s Word to His People Luke 19:28-40 Our humble King comes in majesty to bring forgiveness and peace

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.

No Tramp of Soldiers’ Marching Feet CWS #716 Verses 1-4 Text: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b Setting: NO TRAMP OF SOLDIERS’ MARCHING FEET Tune: David W. Music, b. 1949

Verse 1: No tramp of soldiers’ marching feet With banners and with drums, No sound of music’s martial beat: “The King of glory comes!” To greet what pomp of kingly pride No bells in triumph ring, No city gates swing open wide: “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 2: And yet he comes. The children cheer; With palms his path is strown. With ev’ry step the cross draws near: The King of glory’s throne. Astride a colt he passes by As loud hosannas ring, Or else the very stones would cry, “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 3: What fading flow’rs his road adorn; The palms, how soon laid down! No bloom or leaf but only thorn The King of glory’s crown. The soldiers mock, the rabble cries. The streets with tumult ring, As Pilate to the mob replies, “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 4: Now he who bore for mortals’ sake The cross and all its pains And chose a servant’s form to take, The King of glory reigns. Hosanna to the Savior’s name Till heaven’s rafters ring, And all the ransomed host proclaim, “Behold, behold your King!”

“A White Palm Sunday!”

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Offering Prayer Prayer of the Church

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

The Sacrament Pastor: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up unto the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is good and right so to do.

The Sacrament Pastor: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. God made His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for the sins of the world. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) Verses 1: O Holy, holy, holy Lord God of pow’r and might, Your glory, earth and heaven In countless ways recite. Hosanna! Come and save us, Lord God of hosts on high, And in your grace and mercy Receive our fervent cry.

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) Verses 2: Hosanna in the highest! How truly blest is he Who in God’s name is coming To set his people free! He comes to bring salvation And with his blood outpoured, Deliver us from bondage— Hosanna, mighty Lord!

Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Words of Institution Pastor: Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

The Sacrament Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: Amen.

Distribution of Holy Communion

Pastor: We give you thanks, O Lord, for the foretaste of the heavenly banquet that you have given us to eat and to drink in this sacrament. Through this gift you have fed our faith, nourished our hope, and strengthened our love. By your Spirit help us to live as your holy people until that day when you will receive us as your guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen Prayer

All: Amen. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and X give you peace.
