Bytown District Official’s Association Feb 9 th, 2011 Git’ er done!!!

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Great job making it through BCC and a busy January. ► BCC was a HUGE success…Congrats to Spencer Cunningham, Ryan Stasiuk, and Derek Allen for working Maj. Pw AAA final…and to Terry Morin, Rick Caverly, and Duncan Williams for working Min. Pw A final. Great job guys! ► January had us working at the Sensplex helping to handle comp. level tournaments. I received lots of positive feedback from the Sensplex who were impressed with the caliber of our officials and the quality job they did. ► Pay for these games: Will be in March

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Playoffs: Regular season for our HL ended Feb. 6 th Playoff schedules will be out soon and will start Feb 14 th. Please, your calendar MUST be up to date because we will have 2 weeks with over 400 games and very short notice. Be up to date and ready to skate on short notice. ► Late shows/ No shows for playoffs: Totally unacceptable. We work hard all season to get to this point and we do not want to a) ruin the hockey experience for the players be being short an official b) put your partner in danger because you didn’t show up. You MUST be on time, call partner/Brian/Karen and be ready to go

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Calling the assignor: Guys, please be sure you know who to call in the event you need to call. If you are working a Novice, Atom or Peewee game you call Karen. If it is Bantam, Midget or Juvi you call Brian. If one is stuck and can’t help you, try the other, but first call must be to the proper assignor. ► Trades: Guys have made some messes because they split up trades. Brian sent out a reminder…you take the WHOLE set or none at all. Also, you start with the highest level game and work down. You can’t just take 1 or 2 and leave the guy hanging on the 3 rd game…that’s very poor. Stick to the rules. ► Switches: If you want to switch assignments at the game (line to ref or vice versa), please don’t. Not this time of year. Karen and Brian have the crews and let’s leave them.

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Speak Out: Must be done by March 31 st. I have a list of everyone who has done it…if your name is NOT on this list, you need to either do the workbook or go to a clinic or else you will not be eligible to referee for the end of our season or until next year until you get it done. ► Quiz program: If you are a 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd year official you must complete the quizzes each month. Please be sure to get on the Quiz for February. ► Supervisions: At our last meeting I set out some rules for submitting supervisions/no showing. You will have 1 week from tonight (Feb 16 th ) before the executive start going through OMS and impose fines for incomplete supervisions/ no showing to supervisions. My approach is, if they aren’t in the system, you didn’t go to the rink…so if you did, get them in.

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Educational Bursaries: 3 X $500 bursaries available for officials graduating High School who would be interested. Please see the link on our website for this. ► Ref School: Aug 12 th -14 th At Carleton University. Cost is Approximately $200 and includes meals, accomodations, 2 hours of on ice instruction and first rate instruction. This is a phenomenal deal as your recert clinic is normally $139. We have 15 spots available and this is ONLY intended for a refresher…so only guys already an official are eligible. If interested please me so I can start developing a list (a perhaps get us some extra spots too!)

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► GIR: So important this time of year that you get your GIR in right away. Teams play again very shortly and we need to have the paperwork sorted out so that they can field the proper teams. 24 hours…or sooner…no exceptions ► Safety equipment: This time of year hockey gets tough and we need to do our part to keep the players safe. Please check goalies for correct safety equipment…players too. We need to be vigilant on this or else someone will get hurt.

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Mentorship report: ► Ian Percy ► Interested for next year? We are filling up ALREADY and not done the year…which is fantastic. Priority goes to family and being on the list ► Other items? ► Discipline report: ► Rick Cooper ► A number of concerns as guys are getting lax on dress code, arrival time, and calling in to Brian and Karen when someone no shows. Tighten these things up for playoffs. Also, trades are a problem. See the previous message on Trades and don’t leave your buddy hanging…help him out because one day YOU will need the help.

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► February 9, 2011 ► Director of Supervision Report ► The District B Supervision Program has been progressing well this season. To date we have completed 747 of 909 assigned supervisions and generally speaking, our officials are doing very well. We have adjusted the ratings of several officials to reflect their improvement and there are other officials that are working hard and will most likely have their ratings adjusted before the end of the year. ► I attended the Midget AA Showcase games December 18, 2010 at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex and the Bantam AA All Star games in Kemptville January 2, Our officials were also involved in two tournaments at the Bell SensPlex during the weekends of January 7th (Midget AA/B), January 15th (Bantam AA/B) and weekend of the 23rd (Pee Wee AA/B). From the supervisions that were done and the feedback that I received, our officials did a very good job. ► The House League and Competitive playoffs will be starting very soon and we expect our officials to maintain their professionalism and high standards through out the playoffs. ► Yours in Hockey ► Tom Meagher ► District B ► Director of Supervision

DBOA- Feb 9 th, 2011 ► Treasurer: ► Greig Lund ► Financial Statement ► Other items: ► Next Meeting: ► March 9 th, 2011 here at the Hockey office. Will have all of January/February pay. ► March Break tournament and OYET still on deck…something close to another 500 or so games once playoffs wrap up. Be ready… ► Rep B playoffs will be starting as well…wrap up by Easter. ► Year end party: April 20 th, Location TBD. Will be AGM (elections and amendments to constitution) and awards.
