Why 1. To experience the sport fishery in Madison lakes what are they catching how much, where are they fishing how are they fishing 2. To see where common fish species are in the lakes 3. Obtain practical training in working with fish, fish data, and report writing Madison Lakes field trip, 10 February 2007 Sign up for 2 time slots: 8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm

1. Survey the anglers Meet at the CFL and pair up Go to a ice fishing location Survey 5-10 anglers 2. Come back at the Center For Limnology to Age Fish 3. Use all the data collected by the class to write a report about the ice fishery on the Madison lakes! Three Main Parts

It can be a big fishery.....close to shore!

Or scattered all over the middle of the lake!

Quick transportation....these people are serious about their ice fishing serious about their ice fishing

What You’ll Need: Pencils (not pens!) Pocket knife or Scissors & forceps (tweezers) 12” Plastic ruler with metric(!!) scale WARM CLOTHING – ESPECIALLY BOOTS

Fill out a new data sheet for every interview! Fill in all parts! Write neatly!

Check your data sheets and scale envelops Make sure all the sections are filled out Double check that data from scale envelop = data sheet Did you write neatly...? If not fix it now! 3. Prepare and interpret the ages of your fish from scales Sonicate the scales and clean them Place 3-5 scales between two glass slides Clip the slides together and put them under the microscope Interpret the ages and write them on the data sheet Back at the Lab:
