Alexander Graham Bell

History  Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 3,  Occupation: Inventor, Scientist, Engineer, Professor (Boston University), Teacher of the deaf.  Bell’s mother and wife were deaf.  His father helped him in his learning a lot.  Bell showed a sensitive nature and a talent for art, poetry and music that was encouraged by his mother.  He went to two universities in his life, one was the University of Edinburgh and the other was the College of London.

History continued…  In school he did not seem very clever.  Alexander displayed a natural curiosity about his world.  His main interest remained in the sciences, especially biology.  Although he was enrolled as a student in Latin and Greek, he instructed classes himself in return for board and they cost £10 per session.  He died in August 2, 1922.

Alexander’s achievements  He contributed to aviation technology, and his last patent, at the age of 75, was for the fastest hydrofoil yet invented.  Bell and his son-in-law, Gilbert Grosvenor, took the society's dry journal and turned National Geographic into one of the world's best-known magazines.  Because his mother was deaf, he developed a technique of speaking in clear, modulated tones directly into her forehead wherein she would hear him with reasonable clarity.  In 1876, after many years of experimenting and working with other scientists, Bell created and operated the first telephone that was used to communicate between two points that were a reasonable distance apart.  He later also invented the metal detector and the photophone, which was used to deliver sound messages on a beam of light.

Sharing ideas... “Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus.”

Bell’s main focus  Considering his inventions, it is easy to say that Bell’s main ideas were focused on using his knowledge to ease communication by further improvising on other scientists works. The telegraph was invented by another critical and creative thinker, but Bell modified it and made it a product that was more efficient and even more easily available to everyone. Also, he focused on making things easier and so he made the first ever telephone.

What did Bell bring to the world  In a time where communication was only possible face – to – face, an idea like a telephone sounded alien.  When Alexander brought the telephone to the world, it was like a miracle for the people at the time.  The idea was continuously improvised upon and the large telephone is now reduced to a pocket phone called a mobile.  It is hard to see anyone without a mobile these days, as it is a product that is useful in every cultural setting and is widely available to all. Thanks to Bell, the entire world seems to have come closer to one another.
