Work Work in colonial America was tough. You would work long, hard days. There were many jobs you could have. A blacksmith, for example made tools for a fellow craftsman. Blacksmiths were also creators for of hardware for homes. They melted metal in a hearth and made it into stuff you would use in your everyday life. Next they would dip the warm metal in a bucket of water so it would cool down. After that they would get it all ready to be sold.

4 Founding Fathers George Washington: He was the first president and led Boston’ s army to freedom in the American Revolution. Benjamin Franklin: He was a state man and singed the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Paine:He wrote the famous pamphlet Common Sense. Which helped people become patriots. Patrick Henry:He gave very famous speeches. Thomas Paine Benjamin Franklin George Washington Patrick Henry

13 Colonies New England Colonies: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. The people in New England fished, whaled, built ships, and inward there were hilly mountains. Middle Colonies: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The people in the middle colonies farmed a lot. Mostly they farmed oat, wheat, and rye. Which are all the ingredients used to make bread. That explains why they were known as the bread basket colonies. Southern Colonies: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia. The people in the southern colonies were very famous for planting and growing tobacco. They also made tar, rice, and pitch. It was also famous for it’s warm winters.

Slaves Slaves in the 13 colonies were mostly in the Southern region because they needed help working on all of their plantations. Slaves were captured from their home and traveled on a ship to the 13 colonies. There they were separated from their families and sold at an auction. They had a master which told them what to do and when to do it. If the slave disobeys their master then their master beats them. A slave works for its master doing hard labor for all of most of its life.

Food They planted many kinds of food. Such as corn, rye, peas, squash, and pumpkins. This was done by the women and, if they were old enough children. The men got food by hunting animals in the wilderness.

Costume Children wore a shirt, neck bands, a cap, and fine line. Men wore breeches, coat, a coat if they were outside, a hat, hunting shirt, leggings, shoes, stockings, and sometimes wigs. Women wore gowns, stays, stockings shoes, silk, and a lace cap.

4 Tools Hammers were one of the many tools used in colonial times. They used the hammer to pound wooden parts and to place nails into the wooden walls. Saws were used to cut wood. Compasses and calipers were used to measure and fit work.

Games and Music Colonial Americans played board games, puzzles, and a game of nine pins as a family or bowling. In war they would play fife and drums for pleasure.
