STRATEGIC PLANNING Montgomery Twp. Public Schools Judith Ferguson, Consultant Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates Ltd Waukegan Road Glenview, IL 60025

STRATEGIC PLANNING A process by which an organization discerns its core values, declares its core purpose and designs the means to achieve that purpose

The Process Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 4 Preparing for Transformation Planning Transformation Creating Transformation Learning and Adjusting

Components 1. Vision 2. Mission 3. Core Values 4. Objectives 5. Strategies 6. Commitments 7. Action Plans

Corporate Vision Statement “It is our goal to become the world leader in our industry within ten years. As we use this term, leadership means more revenue, more profit, more innovation that serves our customers’ needs, and a more attractive place to work than any other competitor. Achieving this ambitious objective will probably require double- digit revenue and profit growth each year. It will surely require that we become less U.S. oriented, more externally focused, considerably less bureaucratic, and more of a service instead of a product company. We sincerely believe that if we work together we can achieve this change, and in the process create a firm that will be admired by our stockholders, customers, employees and communities.” John P. Kotter, Leading Change, p. 70

Governing Ideas Source: Peter M. Senge, The Fifth Discipline, p. 223 Vision is the “What?” – the picture of the future we seek to create.
