The ferret is a member of the weasel family. The Black-footed ferret is inches long including a 5-6 inch tail. They weigh between 1-2 pounds. They have tan fur with a black face mask with black feet. They have short little legs with a long skinny body. The ferret is near the burrow they live in. This ferret is be hide a bush at night fall.

The Ferret eats prairie dogs. Prairie dogs are the main ferret diet that keeps the Black-footed ferret alive. Each ferret eats over 100 ferrets a day. They also eat small rodents. This is the Ferrets’ food. A ferret getting ready to pounce.

There are 80 Ferrets in the wild 1,000 are in captivity. People are killing the Black-footed ferret for their fur. In addition predators and diseases are harming the ferret. The biggest threat is the loss of their habitat!! This is all ferret fur. This is the ferret population.

The ferret currently live in these four states, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and Arizona. The red dot is where they were last seen. This where the ferret historical location was last know.

These are what the ferret lays every year kits. There is now less then 2% of the original ferret habitat. Prairie dog towns of plains and Plateous are also home to the Black-footed ferret. This is a ferret at the entrance to a ferret burrow. This is the ferrets’ habitat. They dig little holes in the ground.

Other Ferret facts  Ferrets communicate by barking and hissing.  Ferret kits are born in their borrows in the spring.  Ferrets are active in the night.  A fast ferret can run up to 6 miles ph.  Ferrets don’t hibernate in the winter.  Only 18 ferrets were remaining in  The ferrets are sold in pet stores.  They originally came from Europe.  The ferret has been tamed for many years.  The ferret lives 8-9 years in captivity and 4-3 years in the wild.  Males don’t really care for the young they leave it up to the females.  The ferret is a very playful animal, kits especially. A posing ferret for a picture.

I think we should make a National park where the ferret has a good habitat. Also they will not have to worry about becoming extinct. I think we should save them because I think they are cute. I think they are beyond one of the most amazing creatures. Also if we save the ferret habitat we will save other animals like swift fox, burrowing-owls, and Golden eagles. I hope you think so too!
