Globalization

Spatial Association ► Geographers try to identify cultural ethnic and/or environmental factors that display similar spatial distribution. ► Varies with scale.  Ex. In Maryland, high rtes of cancer are found in the eastern rural areas.

Globalization ► A force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.

Globalization of Economy ► Led by transnational corporations who conduct business in many countries.  They relocate nonessential employees outside command centers  They identify the assets of each region in the world.  They organize production according to a spatial division of labor ► Maquiladores ► Heightens economic differences between places. places.

Globalization of Culture ► Uniform consumptions preferences ► Enhanced communications ► Unequal access to cultural elements
