Types of Informative Speeches Speeches about Objects Speech about anything visible, tangible, and stable in form Write an example Speeches about Events Speech about anything that has happened or is regarded as happening Write an example Speeches about Concepts Explains a belief, theory, idea, or principle Write an example Speeches about Processes Speech about a systematic series of actions that lead to a specific result or product Write an example

Informative Speeches are judged on... How accurately the information is communicated How clearly the information is communicated How meaningful and interesting the information is to the audience

Speeches about Processes Explain how something is made or how something is done (2 kinds of process speeches) Explain to understand Explain to perform

Organization of Process Speeches Chronological Order Start with step one and proceed with other steps until the end Topical Order Focuses on major techniques or principles of the topic

Introduction for Process Speech Include a greeting -- this should be from you and your partner Attention getter-- find a way to get us interested in what you are about to say Credibility statement-- tell us why you and your partner know what you are talking about Previewing-- tell us what skill you will be demonstrating

Credibility Should be why you and your partner are credible Reasons may include Research Personal experience (actually performed the skill) Taught by industry trained professionals

Steps (main points) Include specific directions for completing the task Directions are easy to follow (audience understanding is taken into account) Supporting details are included Materials needed Anything that further supports the step

Language in a Process Speech Simple, clear, easy to understand No jargon words specific to a particular trade or group Uses transition words to help audience move from step to step First, second, third; now, next, finally

Demonstration Must be included in your speech Must include all necessary materials and be thoroughly explained Option 1: demonstrate in class Option 2: take a video or pictures that you can explain in the speech to use as your demonstration

Conclusion for Process Speech Review-- briefly remind us of steps you take and materials you need Summarize-- give us some information on why this is important to us Memorable ending-- find a way to end the speech that will stick with us Closing-- thank the audience
