The Setting: Pre-Civil Rights Movement, Alabama Character 1: An extremely poor white teenager with no friends from a family considered to be “white trash” by the community. Deceased mother. Father is a drunk. Oldest of many children and left to take care of them with no resources. Character 2: A black man with one arm rendered useless in an accident. Well-respected husband and father with a good heart. Hard-working and willing to help others. Situation: Character 1 has come on to character 2 and has been turned down. Unfortunately the whole scene was witnessed by Character 1’s father, who of course is irate. To cover up the act, Character 1 has accused Character 2 of attempted rape and a trial is currently in session.
