Big Questions, Real Problems It begins with the desire to discover. Meaningful questions are inspired by genuine curiosity about real-world experiences. How can we help the juniors to learn to read? What re our school Values and how can we present them to the rest of the school? Why does the moon change shape? Resourses Question Modals Brainstorms Mindmaps KWL

Investigating is acting on our curiosity and putting it into action. gather information researching resources studying crafting an experiment Observing Interviewing… Investigating includes Resources Surf and Swap Video of an expert

Creating involves shaping the information gathered into real tangible knowledge through the creating of a product, solution, presentation or resolution. How can we help the juniors to learn to read? Electronic Reader targeted at specific learning. E.g. blends, rhyming… What re our school Values and how can we present them to the rest of the school? Short animated movie illustrating a particular value. Why does the moon change shape? A science fair style display that is aimed at a particular age group.

At this point in the circle of inquiry, learners share their new ideas with others. The learner begins to ask others about their own experiences and investigations. Shared knowledge is a community-building process, and the meaning of their investigation begins to take on greater relevance in the context of the learner's society. Comparing notes, discussing conclusions, and sharing experiences are all examples of this process in action.

What is assessed is what is valued. Therefore, more emphasis needs to be placed on assessing the development of information-processing skills, nurtured habits of mind, or "ground rules" of the discipline, and conceptual understandings -- rather than just the content of the field. Test and evaluate the product. Did it meat our target? What have we achieved? What can we do with what we now know? Resources KWL PMI PMI Rubric
