Balli negli 1800 Daniela Iannetta

La Volta The Volta is known as a Renaissane Dance which is claimed to come from both Italy and France. It was the first dance known to have a three-fourth beat. Volta is the Italian word for turn It is also known to be the first of the waltzes (or the forerunner to the waltz) when combined with other round dances. This dance was seen considered immoral at the time, as the man faces is partner instead of standing alongside her and holds her by the waist. The lady puts her right arm on the shoulder of her partner whilst holding her dress in her left hand (just off the floor) to avoid the dress being stepped on are dragging on the floor (as well as flying up during the leaps and turns). The man spins his partner round several times and helps her take a high leap into the air (and at times leaping with her), which would sometimes cause her ball gown to fly upwards.

La Furlana The furlana is an Italian folk dance from the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia It is particularly associated with Venice because, at the time of its popularity, Friuli was a part of the Republic of Venice The furlana is a fast dance, in duple-time 6/8, one example is in quintuple meter since it is connected to the Slavonic culture also suggested by its title, Polesana, which in Italian means "a woman from Pola" (a city in Istria, neighboring Friuli ) In Le carnaval de Vinise, in which the first of two furlanas was a dance entry for a troupe of Slavs, Armenians, and Gypsies), and it quickly became a popular theatre and social dance there

La Pizzica Pizzica is a popular Italian folk dance, originally from the Salento peninsula (Lecce in particular) and later spread throughout all of the Puglia region and eastern Basilicata The traditional pizzica is danced while embracing a partner. This hug doesn’t necessarily involve two individuals of opposite sexes, and often two women can be seen dancing together. Nowadays it’s rare to see two men dancing an entire pizzica. An exception with a pizzica between two men can still be found in the town of Ostuni, where one of the two men who dance jokingly pretends to be a woman. Another exception is where two men pretend to be engaged in a duel. There are several traditional pizzica groups, the oldest ones are Officina Zoé, Uccio Aloisi gruppu, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, Selva Cupina, I Tamburellisti di Torrepaduli. Since 1998 there has been a summer (taranta night), consisting of a whole night where many famous musicians alternate their performances with pizzica orchestras.

La Tarantella The term Tarantella groups a number of different Italian couples It’s a folk dance characterized by a fast upbeat tempo, usually in 6/8 time (sometimes 18/8 or 4/4) It’s accompanied by tambourines It’s the most commonly know traditional Italian dance and music. the supposedly healing or symptomatic tarantella was danced alone by a supposed victim of a "tarantula" bite; it was disturbed for hours or even up to days, and featured characteristic music. When danced with couples they can either be the same or opposite sex-usually either mimicking courtship or a sword fight

La mazurka The mazurka (in Polish, mazurek) is a Polish folk dance in triple meter, usually at a lively tempo, and with an accent on the second or third beat. In the 19th century, the dance became popular in many ballrooms in different parts of Europe.

Il valzer The waltz swept out of Germany in the middle of the eighteenth century to conquer all of Europe, inspiring an old German verse: “Whosoever the dance did discover/Had in mind each maid and lover/With all their burning ardor.” The waltz originated in Austria The name of the waltz is taken from the Italian ‘volver’ - to turn, or revolve. It was an outgrowth of the ländler, a country dance in three-quarter time, and replaced the heavy hopping and jumping movements with more polished and graceful gliding. In Il Gatto Pardo, the characters dance the waltz, or in Italian, “il valzer” as well as la mazurka
