1.CLASSIFICATION: AP TITLE OF REFERRAL: Collins College Degree/Major Name Change 3.BACKGROUND: Currently, the Collins College grants a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management to all students who complete the degree requirements for the major. The Collins College is requesting that the University allow the Collins College of Hospitality Management to change the name on the degree so that graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. 4.RECOMMENDED RESOURCES: Andy Feinstein, Dean, Michael Godfrey, Margie Jones, Don St. Hilaire, John Self, Myong Jae Lee, Barbara Bruin, Claudia Pinter Lucke.

5.DISCUSSION: There was unanimous response by all resources consulted that this name change is necessary to reflect the broader reach of the hospitality industry, which includes not only hotels and restaurants, but also club, aviation, theme park, tourism, special event, convention & exhibition management. The name change would better reflect the current course offerings and the state of hospitality educational programs. Students also commented that the name change of the degree would better reflect “What we are”. 6.RECOMMENDATION: The Academic Programs Committee recommends approval of the referral Ap Collins College Degree major name Change Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
