NW Region Opportunities & challenges £119 billion economy with 6.9 million people and 250,000 businesses Largest sectors are Business & Professional Services, Food & Drink and Advances Engineering & Materials UK largest region for both Food and Drink and Chemicals production Produces 7.03m tonnes of commercial and industrial waste & 10.4m tonnes of construction & demolition waste SMEs produce 77% of the regions commercial waste and recycle over 67% In 2007 the region was responsible for of 57m T/CO 2 e emissions down from 63m T/CO2e in 1990

SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION ACTION PLAN VISION for 2020 Achieve a more productive, resource-efficient, low carbon Northwest by 2020 through continuous economic and social progress that makes best use of resources to meet the needs and aspirations of the Northwest for a better quality of life. INDICATORS a reduction in tonnes of CO 2 emissions per unit of GVA against a 2006 baseline of 0.53; a reduction in the waste produced per unit of GVA against the 2006 baseline of 2.71 tonnes (per 10 units of GVA).
