SWBAT generate topic sentences for their research paper Do NOW: Divide into topic groups All Revenge research papers All Appearance vs. reality research papers All Power/Corruption research papers Swap one piece of research with another group member. Goal- See if their research helps your thesis

TOPIC SENTENCES By now, you should have your thesis statement written and you should have your ideas to backup your thesis statement. Thesis: Through relationships, and character interactions, Hamlet’s downfall was not being able to sort through what existed versus what did not exist Idea 1: Belief that Ghost was real How do you turn it into a topic sentence? Ask yourself how that idea will help you prove your thesis Example: One of the central problems in the play is whether or not the ghost is reliable and whether or not Hamlet actually interacted with the ghost.

GROUP DISCUSSION With your groups discuss your ideas that will support your thesis. Together, help each other write one of your topic sentences.

GROUP WHIP We are going to go around the room and hear one topic sentence from each group.

EXIT SLIP After writing one together, how do you feel about tackling the rest of your paper? Thumbs UP Thumbs DOWN
