Oceans Assure Model Lesson Plan 1 By Rusty Richards

Media Materials and Methods The printed materials will be check-out from the library or from the classroom library to use in gathering information to present concepts in the lessons and to create student projects. Videos will be shown to the class that relate to concepts being learned. The overhead projector and transparencies, whiteboard, and flip charts will be used when teacher is instructing the whole-class on a concept or to gather information from students.

Learner Participation  Small-Group Activities In cooperative groups, students will create a dioramas and multi- media presentation on oceans. They will need to utilize the Internet, books, videos, and CD- ROMs about Oceans to gather information for their projects. Each group will select a reporter, a recorder, a person responsible for gathering materials for the group, and a person to make sure that the group stays on task. Students need to make sure that all members of the group participate in gathering information and creating the final project. The teacher will be observing the groups as well to evaluate their progress.

Student Assessment –Organization (25 points) Is the presentation organized so that it flows from one concept to another clearly? Did each member of the group assist in gathering information? –Presentation (50 points) Did the students create a title page? Did the students use transitions in their presentation? Did the students include audio? Did the presentation include all required elements? Did the students explain all data included in their project? Did the students create a page for credits? Did the students create handouts for the class? Did the group use proper grammar? –Interpretation (25 points) Did the group understand all concepts presented? Did the group ensure that everyone could see and hear the presentation? Did the group thoroughly explain their topic?

Evaluation of Instruction Evaluation of Overall Instruction The teacher, along with the students, will create an overall evaluation form of learner achievement, media, and methods at the beginning of the lesson. At the end of the lesson, the teacher will check the evaluations of the students’ project along with the students evaluations of the media and methods used to present the lessons to see if they compare. If there is a disparity between what students learned and the way the information was presented, adjustments will be made as suggested by the students and teacher in a class discussion.
