Porcupines May, 24, 2010

Introduction Do you want to learn about the fantastic porcupine? If you do read on. You will learn about the porcupines amazing physical characteristics, its awesome habitat, and its adaptations.

Physical Characteristics This is what porcupines look like. Porcupines have millions of quills! The quills help the porcupine be protected from predators. Splash splash splash porcupines like to swim in lakes sometimes. Do you know that when porcupines lose their quills new quills grow only in seconds? Porcupines don’t shoot quills at predators because they cant. But they can run up and hit the animals with their quills. Adult porcupines use quills as braces to climb trees. Now you know what porcupines look like.

Habitat The porcupine has many different habitats. One of them is trees. Do you know that the porcupine sometimes live underground? If you are looking for a porcupine the best place to look is the forest. Like 100 porcupines live in forests in African areas. In winter lots of porcupines live in trees. Porcupines like to live on twigs or leaves to sleep. If you learned a lot about porcupines wait until you read about their adaptations.

Adaptations Last but not least is the porcupines adaptations. Porcupines have strong curved claws to climb trees for sleeping and getting food. Do you know they have rough pebbly soles on there feet to grip tree trunks? Porcupines also have a muscular tail for balancing in trees. Porcupines have poor eye sight but a great sense of smell and hearing. Now you know how the porcupine survives.

Conclusion Now do you think porcupines are awesome? I hope you learned a lot about porcupines physical characteristics habit and adaptations. If you want to learn more I hope you will research the porcupine like I did.
