Evidence

 In the following slides there are images of a train car that was crushed.  How do you think this occurred?

 What crushed the train car? Does air have weight? How do you know?

 In this picture, a train tank car was collapsed after being steam cleaned and sealed. When the air temperature dropped overnight, the air inside condensed, and the Atmospheric Air Pressure crushed he car lbs./in 2 = mB.

 Journal Write - How does the Atmosphere create Air Pressure? Use evidence discussed in class and from your own life. The atmosphere, a mixture of gases, is surrounds the earth and is held there by the earth’s gravity. The atmosphere has weight and pushes down on all objects. We call this air pressure. It is evidenced by:  “Ear Popping” When you feel air pressure changes as you change your altitude in the atmosphere on your ear drum.  The Balloon Activity - where you demonstrated that the air has weight.  The aluminum can crushing activity where you witnessed the air pressure crush the can.

 Balloon Activity Procedure 1. One person get a Triple Beam Balance and Zero the scale 2. The other person gets a balloon and a tape loop. 3. Weigh the empty balloon with tape loop attached. Blow up and tie balloon. Weight Balloon taped to scale.  Does Air have Weight?  What is your Evidence?
