Periodic Table of Elements

Elements are types of atoms! Elements can not be broken down into simpler substances. Everything is made of matter = atoms.

What do atoms look like? Protons (+) Neutrons Electrons (-) Positive charge Located in the nucleus The number of protons = the signature of the atom. Neutrons No charge Electrons (-) Negative charge Located in the electron cloud (electron orbitals) 2, 8, 18, 36 Super small compared to protons and neutrons.

What makes one type of atom different from another?

What does the periodic table tell you? Atomic Number = Number of Protons Tells what type of atom you have. Tells the number of electrons in an electrically neutral atom. Atomic Mass = # of protons + # of neutrons Mass of nucleus

Protons = ____________ Neutrons= ___________ Electrons =___________ Draw the Bohr Model

Protons = ___________ Neutrons = __________ Electrons = ___________ Draw the Bohr Model
