The Future of Education 8.4 Essential Questions: What are some changes going on in education at present? What problems are there with some of these changes?

Changing Education Distance Learning- taking a course without physically being present at the school, college or university Online School, students study at home and communicate with teachers via phone, and internet Conference Parents have responsibilities to make sure students spend 30hrs/week doing school work and must submit daily assignments Pros? Cons? Less funding needed but what about socialization? Are students going to get this via online schools?

Corporatization School districts get money from commercial businesses in return for product exposure. YNN(Youth News Network) belongs to a Canadian Company, it produces 12 minutes of news with 2 minutes of advertising. If a school signs a contract with YNN, they agree to broadcast this to their students in return for school equipment. How do you feel about this? Each student must be 1 or 2.

DEBATE TIME!!! Port Hope is considering broadcasting YNN but the board will have to make the final decision. As Port Hope students you are divided as to whether you would like it or not. If you are a 1, you will argue FOR YNN. If you are a 2, you will argue AGAINST YNN. You will have 10 minutes to collaborate with your group, generate ideas to defend your position, anticipate your opponents responses and divide roles amongst your team.
