VLANs

Current Setup

Why VLAN? Allows DL Codec connections anywhere in your building Don’t have to purchase separate switches for your codec network Gives flexibility to plug either a DL codec or laptop/workstation into any wall port

New Setup

Requirements for Change Managed switch(es) DL Codec(s) that accept VLAN tags New cable run from router to main switch Cable run from main switch to DL Controller

Steps to migrate to multiple VLANs Router configuration changes Cabling changes Switch configuration changes DL Codec – VLAN tag change Codec IP address changes

Tagged versus Untagged All switch ports can be untagged for the Private LAN All switch ports can be tagged for the DL Codec VLAN The only exceptions are on the switch to router connections, which should be untagged on the correct VLAN

Where else should I consider VLANs? Public Wireless DL Codecs DMZ Teachers Students Administration High School/Middle School/Elementary
