Patent U.S. 8,121,433 B2 California Institute of Technology Providing Environmental Intelligence From Space Your best solution for monitoring and assessment of ground related hazards

Who we are Imagin’ Labs was founded around the COSI-Corr technology, developed at the California Institute of Technology. Experts in satellite and aerial image processing. Experts in surface processes and associated risks (sand-dunes, landslides, glaciers, earthquakes, etc). Market leaders in ground motion analysis using imagery. 10 years of experience in satellite imagery and risk analysis. Clients include: –USGS –NASA –New Zealand GNS

Alignment of satellite and aerial images with sub-pixel accuracy: error ten times smaller than the size of a pixel. Tracking and monitoring of ground motion, displacement, or changes. Ground motion can be retrieved in 3D to characterize underlying process (dune migration, landslide, etc.) Reconstruction of high-resolution 3D terrain models. COSI-Corr: Co-registration of Optically Sensed Images and Correlation

Cost effectiveness Imagin’ Labs sub-pixel analysis delivers ground monitoring information of unmatched quality: –For images at a given resolution, Imagin’ Labs delivers more accurate and objective results than would be given by an image analyst. –For a given accuracy, Imagin’ Labs can use lower resolution images, saving data costs and handling by more than a factor of 10! Automatic analysis: objective and quantitative, no need for large numbers of analysts, no need for extra training. Can mix processing from different satellites or aerial platforms, not tied to a single image provider.

Mapping sand risk on Mars for Rover landing and routing, Mapping liquefaction effects in New Zealand to produce zoning maps of reconstruction risks, Rapid mapping ground deformation from earthquake to lead USGS team in the field, Mapping slow landslides motion to monitor risk of failure. Some Case Studies

Imagin’ Labs contracted to evaluate landing risk of NASA Curiosity rover Mars Curiosity:  $2.5 Billions  Landed 08/12  Largest rover sent on Mars

Assessing Sand Dune Risk for NASA Curiosity Rover 1 km 0 cm/yr 85 1 km Imagin’ Labs unique technology assessed the Curiosity landing site for safe landing: -Sand stability -Dunes migration -Sand flux Red arrows indicates sand migration over the landing zone

8 Contracted by the New-Zealand Geological and Nuclear Sciences office to assess earthquake ground deformation Imagin’ Labs involved in the Christchurch 2011 earthquake recovery effort

Imagin’ Labs ground deformation map used in the government zoning for city reconstruction

1 km COSI-Corr used to Quantify Ground Deformation in 3 Dimensions Our unique COSI-Corr technology allows precise mapping of 3D ground motion. 1 km Profile ~1.5m of slip A linear track crossing this fault would be split by ~1.5m 10

COSI-Corr used to Monitor the Risk of Landslides Landslide monitored using 2.5m ground resolution satellite images acquired 9 months apart. 11

Generation of High Fidelity Elevation Models Imagin’ Labs provides state-of-the-art, very accurate 3D models using, UAV, aerial, and satellite sensors

Implications and benefits for the Oil & Gas industry –In-operation monitoring of terrain stability to prevent infrastructure damages –Pre-engineering study to document long-term ground stability (50+ years) –Significant savings in pipeline construction costs from improved route mapping –Significant savings in oil well construction costs from better siting of wells –Terrain changes, such as desert sands, are efficiently tracked –Unique capability, unequalled across the industry
