Sand dunes, Canyons and Deltas 5th grade Science

What is a delta? an area at the end of a river where sediments are deposited and build up

How are deltas formed? Weathering Erosion Deposition

How are deltas formed? When a river reaches a lake or sea, the water slows down The sediments are then dropped at the *mouth of the river. When ocean waves cannot carry the sediments out to the ocean, a delta is formed.

Where can you find a delta? At the mouth of a river The mouth of a river is where a river meets the ocean.

What shape is this delta?

How is a delta formed? Deposition by water

What is a Sand dune A hill of sand piled up by the wind

How is a sand dune formed? Weathering Erosion Deposition

How is a sand dune formed? Dunes may form wherever there is a lot of loose sand and enough wind to move it.

Where can you find a sand dune? Beaches and deserts are common places for dunes.

Which way was the wind blowing from?

How are sand dunes formed? Wind Erosion and deposition

A deep cut within the Earth’s crust What is a canyon? A deep cut within the Earth’s crust

Water cuts through the land over millions of years creating a canyon How was it formed? Erosion by water Water cuts through the land over millions of years creating a canyon

What is an example of a canyon? Palo Duro Canyon in Texas Grand Canyon in Arizona

How is a canyon formed? Erosion by Water
