Poem analysis A Red, Red Rose Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun! And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o' life shall run8.   And fare thee weel,9 my only luve, And fare thee weel, a while10! And I will come again, my luve, Tho' it were ten thousand mile11! 8. While the sands o' life shall run: As ong as I still live. “Sands” here stands for the life span, for in ancient times people measured time with an instrument called “sand glass” , which measured time by the flowing of sand. 9. fare thee weel: fare well to you 10. a while: a short period of time 11. Tho' it were ten thousand mile: Even though I were ten miles away from you. Tho': Though 2017/4/25

Poem analysis A Red, Red Rose It is Burns's most famous love poems. It is written in Ballad form. The theme of it is permanent love, which itself is deep, genuine and natural and thus makes the poem more striking and original to the readers than many other poems of the similar theme. The two outstanding qualities of this poem are its simplicity and spontaneity. The poet frequently uses hyperbole to emphasize the young man's strong love for his “luve” and uses similes to show the sweetness the youthful energy and natural beauty of his “luve” . The rhyme scheme of the poem is abcb. 2017/4/25

Poem analysis A Red, Red Rose 2017/4/25
