SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER: Career specific Personal interest Broaden your academic horizons Degrees come in many shapes and forms Make good use of search engines: WHAT SHOULD I STUDY?

SOME POINTS TO CONSIDER: Is the university offering the course you want to study? What sort of ratings does it have? Staff/student ratios An older university or a newer institution? Geographical location: How far are you from family/ friends? Is an airport accessible? City or rural location? Sport/ extra curricular activities available WHERE TO STUDY?

Single Honours Degree or Joint Honours degree? A sandwich course? A year abroad? Courses of the same name vary from university to university What form of assessment? WHAT TYPE OF COURSE?

Studying overseas Foundation courses (Art) Gap Year OTHER OPTIONS?

Tuition fees: Up to £9000 – average £7400 No fee for persons domiciled in Scotland studying in Scotland Persons domiciled in Wales (and EU) studying in Wales receive £3,465 tuition fee loan + non means tested grant to make up rest of fees Persons domiciled in NI (and EU) studying in NI pay up to £3,465 Overseas students pay variable amounts. WHAT WILL IT COST?

Student Loans: Loans are repaid through income tax system on earnings over £21000 Repayments are the same irrespective of loan amount Grants: Grants are available dependent on family income WHAT WILL IT COST?

Living costs: Living costs guidelines from universities: From £6000 – £10000 per year Total Tuition fees + living costs for a 3 year degree could cost between £ £57000 WHAT WILL IT COST?

Application: Dates and Deadlines Now –Summer: Research, research, research! 14 th September: Predicted grades End of September: Applications for ‘Oxbridge’, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry sent End of October: All applications sent. November onwards: Offers received 13 th August: Results Day September/ October 2015: Start university! HOW TO APPLY?

Offers: If a university makes an offer it may take the following forms: A. Grades ie. A,B,C B. Points ie. 260 UCAS points C. Subject specific ie. ‘must include at least a B grade in Maths’ Once you have received all of offers you will need to make a ‘FIRM’ and ‘INSURANCE’ choice. HOW TO APPLY?
