FESTIVAL FOODS By Olivia Simpson

Types of festivals There are lots of different types of festivals that are held all over the world. A festival is simply a gathering of people celebrating the things that they like. Here are some different types of festivals…

Music festivals Eg.Glastonbury Classic car festival Eg. Gunnison Car Show Religious festivals Eg. Holi (Indian spring festival) Food/drink festivals Eg. Kapalua Wine & Food Festival Beer festivals Eg. Reepham Beer Festival Film festival Eg. Edinburgh International Film Festival

Types of festival food. o Italian food like pasta, spaghetti Bolognese or carbonara o Mexican foods like wraps or chilli con carne o Indian food like chicken curry or Keema curry o Vegetarian food like risotto, omelette or Stroganoff

My theme My theme will be vegetarian. I have chosen this theme because a lot of people think that vegetarian food is boring and it could change their perspective on veggie food. Also there would be something for everyone, it can be hard for vegetarians to find food at places like festivals so this would make it easier. I am going to make a mushroom risotto. It is a good festival food because it is healthy. Also it isn’t to hard to serve as there is not many components once it is served.

RISOTTO PLAN

Ingredients o Arborio rice (gives the creamy texture of risotto) o Mushrooms (I will use 3 different types of mushrooms to add different flavours and textures eg. enoki mushroom, cremini mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms) o Butter (to make it even more creamy) o Oil o Garlic and banana onions (for extra flavour) o Parmesan cheese and parsley (to top) o Vegetable stock (this is the vegetarian alternative to chicken broth like the recipes said)

Equipment o Frying pan o Wooden spoon o Sharp knife o Butter knife o Garlic press o Chopping board

Method o Slice the garlic, onion and mushroom o Grate the Parmesan cheese o Dissolve the stock in warm water o Put oil in the pan and leave to heat up o Add the garlic, onion and mushroom to the pan with some butter. o Add the Arborio rice to the pan o Gradually add the stock and water KEEP STIRING o Stir for 20 minutes o Add some more butter and the Parmesan cheese o Put the lid on the pan and leave for 3 to 5 minutes for the butter and cheese to melt o Add seasoning o Serve

Health and safety o Get yourself ready-tie hair back, wash hands etc.… o Use the claw grip while cutting, this will prevent you from cutting yourself o The oil will be hot and sizzling be carful it doesn’t spit up at you o Don’t grate to close to your hands
