What Are “County Committees” ?  The term “County Committee” is a political party term – not a description of a governing body

What Are “County Committees” ?  Each political party needs community organizers to support its needs

What Are “County Committees” ?  By Statute – state law gives political parties unique authority to identify and support political candidates

Municipal Election Districts Town is divided into Districts Each district has about 500 voters Boundaries are usually streets Each district is numbered Large municipalities may also group “Districts” into larger “Wards” Other states may use the term “precincts”

Who Serves on “the county committee” ?  In NJ, each District is represented by two Republicans and two Democrats  Within each political party, each District is represented by one man and one woman

Who Serves on “the county committee” ?  The two representatives of each District, together with the representatives of all other districts in their town, make up the Municipal Republican Committee or Municipal Democrat Committee

Who Serves on “the county committee” ? At the County level,  the representatives from each respective community,  From all of the towns within the county,  make up the full County Republican (or Democrat) Committee

Confusion  “County committee persons” can work at different levels.  As a result, the terminology sometimes becomes confusing.

Working at the State level:  “County committee persons” can work at different levels:  Election District  Municipal  County  State Legislative Districts

Working Your Neighborhood  Neighborhood Election District -  Know the Voters ( recruit challengers )  Register Voters  Educate Voters  Get feedback from Voters  “Get Out the Vote”

Working at the Municipal level:  Municipal Nominate candidates to fill vacancies on the municipal governing body (council or township committee)

Working at the County level:  County Nominate candidates to fill Freeholder vacancies

Working at the State level:  State Legislative Districts Nominate candidates to fill Assembly / Senate vacancies

Spokesperson  “County committee persons” can represent the political party back to the individual voter.  Answer questions about specific candidates  Walk candidates around the neighborhood

Voter Turnout  “County committee persons” are the most important person as the election nears.  Educate voters why it is so imporant that they vote  Distribute MAIL-IN Ballot Applications  Help Voters get to the polls

Election Integrity  “County committee persons” are the most important person on election day.  Recruit Challengers to monitor and verify voters  Help Voters get to the polls  Report District Results when polls close (challengers)

The Most Important Elected Official in America County committee persons are the most important elected officials in America.
