Your Classroom OSC Internet

 Modern Electron Microscopes can easily be connected to the internet.  Simple Method – The Orlando Science Center ◦ Connect to the internet through the portal. ◦ Arrange for the Science Center to have someone at the instrument. ◦ They have a video connection that you can switch from  The view of the instrument  View what is on the screen  Watch any sample preparation  Do an x-ray analysis, if you want (they do it)  View a specimen through their high quality optical microscope as well. ◦ Talk to them over the telephone; project the internet connection on the wall.

 A Computer with a browser  An Internet Connection  A Large Screen or PC Projector  A Telephone Line with a Speaker- Phone  A (Photo) Printer (Optional)  A sense of humor!

 Oak Ridge National Laboratory has instruments that can be totally controlled over the web.  It is occasionally made available to schools.  University of Florida has similar capability ◦ So does USF and UCF to various extents. ◦ All will have it soon ◦ Occasional School interactions possible.

 Remote control of all aspects of the instrument  Download photomicrographs immediately  Excellent for long distance research projects  Great for really good science fair projects.
