Acceleration NL 2.2
Acceleration : is a change in velocity. – Because acceleration is a change in velocity and not speed you must also indicate direction You go faster if acceleration and velocity point in the same direction You slow down or decelerate if acceleration and velocity point in opposite directions
When you accelerate or decelerate you change your velocity by a specific amount over a specific amount of time.
Calculating Acceleration: Units: meters/ second/ second OR m/s 2 Acceleration= Change in Velocity Time Acc.= Final Velocity – Initial Velocity Time OR

Newton’s Second Law Newton’s Second Law states that the strength of a force is equal to the amount of mass involved multiplied by any acceleration applied to it. Or to make it more simple…

Demonstration 1:
You are predicting how far you think the dixie cup will move when hit by either the heavier container or the lighter container.
Demonstration 2 For this demo you will have a golf ball, a ping pong ball, and a straw. You will blow through the straw to move the golf ball and ping pong ball. You will predict whether it will require more force to move the ping pong ball or the golf ball
Demonstration 2:
