FUNCTIONALISM: THINKING ABOUT THE MINDS FUNCTIONS o The focus here is on how people adapt to their environments. o Psychology should explain how people adapted- or failed to adapt-to everyday life outside the laboratory. o Answer one of the critical thinking questions in your box now!
BEHAVIORISM: THINKING ABOUT OBSERVABLE BEHAVIOR o Late to the game… sprung up in the 1920s o Psychology should be observable and without mental processes. o Most people still agree that psychology should be observable, but disagree about the mental processes part.
