Longfellow iPad Implementation First Grade: Kristie Beck, Ivy Manning & KJ Wagar Second Grade: Beth Carey & Karen Gerken

Longfellow Choice Elementary has been provided the opportunity to pilot a one-to-one iPad program in first and second grades. - Longfellow stakeholders were informed of this opportunity through an after school presentation in March led by Superintendent Munoz and through written communication following the parent meeting.

-Two days before break the teachers received their iPads. -Teachers spent time over break familiarizing themselves with the capabilities and functions of the iPads. -Teachers researched numerous apps that correlate with district curriculum and enhance our students’ learning. iPad Staff Development

-Teachers received training from Apple on April 12 and 13 at Longfellow -Longfellow fully launched the implementation on April 16, the first day of the fourth quarter. -First and second grade teams have formed a cohort that touches base daily and meets every Wednesday. -They meet to collaborate, troubleshoot, discuss next steps and celebrate the successes in their classrooms.

Initial iPad Survey Results 9/18 Students had used an iPad before this pilot. Of these 9 kids: 9/9 had experience playing games 7/9 had experience typing 7/9 knew how to take a picture 2/9 knew how to use drawing tools 2/9 knew how to search the web for information 0/9 knew how to record their voice 0/9 knew how to copy a picture from a website to use in their work 0/9 knew how to share their work with others Here is a sampling of the results

Initial Student iPad Survey -The results were very similar to what we would expect -We were surprised that after only 4 weeks of working with the iPads, we’ve covered all of the areas on the survey

-Students have been using the iPads as learning tools during the entire school day from day one. -Every aspect of the school day has been considered as the program has been implemented. -The iPads are proving to be a great tool to enhance what we have already been doing. iPads in the Classroom
