World Geography Third Grade

Students will…  Explore many other cultures around the world through geography.  Create their own maps.  Learn how to make and maintain budgets.  Compare and contrast different cultures.  Discover American democratic culture.

Strand One: American Heritage

Activities!  Trip to the mall! Kil ‘N Times. Students will create their own 19 th century pottery.  Create a new Millennium Constitution.  Create a Martin Luther King Jr. picture timeline.  Journal entries exploring migration experiences to the New World.  Map-making! Map your journey from your homeland to the New World.

Strand Two: People in Societies

Activities!  Internet Key-Pals! Students will make new e- mail buddies from around the world!  Explore Japanese games! Write a persuasive paper to interest classmates in your Japanese game!  Compare and contrast a different culture’s school system with America’s.  Pick and describe a favorite French portrait!  Take a trip to Canada! Explain your adventure to your classmates!

Strand Three: World Interactions

Activities!  Follow a current trial focusing on the judicial processes!  Visit the White House!  Follow a bill and its committee reports!  Critique how the House of Representatives operates!  Mock bill presentation to the Senate!

Strand Six: Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities

Visit the Web!     

Activities!  a local official!  Explore the responsibilities of your local community!  Meet amazing Americans who fought for citizens’ rights!  Take a trip inside a voting booth!  Check out election results and discover five contributions the new official will bring to society!
