By: Ian Kennedy MAKE PROJECT 2013

MY TOPIC For my engage project I learned html/css coding on the Codecademy website, learned how to string lacrosse sticks, and made a blog about the stringing. I chose this project because I play lacrosse, and I am in the Codecademy elective course.

AT THE BEGINNING At first my project was to make a original Native American lacrosse stick, but after researching about the materials and how to make one I decided to move in a different direction. Another student, Gary C. (who is in Mr. Brown’s class) asked me to work on a lacrosse stringing project with him. Since Brown’s class started a couple weeks after us I still needed a project to do in the meantime. I decided to use my past html coding experience (from the elective) and learn more coding to make a website about lacrosse stringing. This is an example of a original Native Lacrosse stick

CODECADEMY Codecademy is website that teaches you coding languages. I used Codecademy to learn html/css coding. I already had some coding experience because I currently have the elective. Codecademy gives you instructions for code that you have to put into the coding script, you submit this code and it shows you what your code what turn out to be on a website. In Engage, I mostly did Codecademy lessons. This is an example of a Codecademy lesson on html coding.

BLOG AND LACROSSE STRINGING Due to time constraints, I was unable to finish css lessons on Codecademy, so I produced a blog with Gary C. about lacrosse stringing instead of a website. Our blog was a simple blog that detailed the stringing of our lacrosse sticks. We included photos of our lacrosse sticks and talked about our sidewalls, shooting strings, and the sticks overall. We also wrote an analysis of our sticks: how they throw / shoot, and about the sticks’ hold. This is a screenshot of our blog

CONCLUSION Was this project successful? I think this project was successful because I was able to expand my knowledge of html/css coding, I learned about lacrosse stringing, and I developed a blog for the first time. What would you do differently? I would have tried to complete Codecademy faster so that I could apply that coding knowledge to actually develop a website.
