Page 2 Q: Is flooding really that big of a deal? Flooding causes more damage in the United States than any other severe weather related event, an average of $5 billion a year. Flooding can occur in any of the 50 states or U.S. territories at anytime of the year. Recent Record Floods from the Headlines Nashville, TN Cranston, West Warwick, RI Floods are a big deal!!

Assess Risk With the inundation areas, you can assess: What neighborhoods will be impacted? – How/when will they be evacuated? Are critical facilities or evacuation routes in jeopardy? –Can preventative efforts be successful?

Communicate Risk Pictures are powerful! Depiction of historic floods with a current context (existing roads, schools, etc) Are family flood preparedness plans needed?
