Please notice that “empty nest” usually refers to the situation that parents are in when their children have left home. retire: vi. go away to a quiet or less central place 隐退 e.g. In the evenings, she retired to her study to work. 到了晚上，她回到书房去工作。 e.g. He often retires to the countryside to work on his book. 他常常躲到乡下去写书。

part of me/him, etc.: used when you have many different feelings or thoughts about something, so it is difficult to decide what you feel or what you should do 我 / 他有 点儿 …… e.g. Part of me wants to leave, but I know he will be unhappy if I do. 我有点儿想离开，但我知道如这样做，他会不开心。 e.g. Part of him wants to marry her. 他有点儿想跟她结婚。

Meaning: I feel tense and angry deep inside, though I know this is an unreasonable response.
