UBC Mechanical Engineering By Devon Lister

Requirements  You much graduate high school with an average of 80% or higher, after some research I found that those who get accepted have at least a 96% average  You also need at English, physics and chemistry 12 and Socials and a language 11  UBC Engineering at the Vancouver campus is hard to get into so you might choose to start at the Okanogan campus and transfer

Courses  At UBC your first year in any engineering program is the same only after you finish your first year do you specialize  In the mechanical engineering you may choose to specialize in biomedical, thermofluids, and mechatronics, mechanical engineering

Cost per Year  Tuition per year at is $4, for a Canadian resident with the addition of $ for student fees  Books will take $ out of your wallet  And if you choose to live on campus it is estimated that your cost of living will be $13, a year including food, luckily I live close enough to UBC that if I choose I could live at home for a few years. If I choose to do so transport will cost 3.75 one way with 61 teaching days that is $ per year.

About the Program  A bachelors degree in mechanical engineering takes four years, including you first year in general engineering.  In your first year you are required to take APSC 100, APSC 101, APSC 160, CHEM 154, ENGL 112, MATH 100, MATH 101, MATH 152, PHYS 157, PHYS 158, PHYS 159 and PHYS 170 if you are just of high school.

Types of scholarships you could apply for  If you are a Canadian citizen then there are two scholarships given buy UBC that you can apply for. The first called Major Entrance Scholarship, is for students who excel at almost everything from arts to sports to leadership, this scholarship is $5,000 and renewable awards of up to $40,000 payable over four years. The second one given by UBC is the Schulich leader scholarships, for these you must be nominated by your high school because of excellent leadership. They grant up to $

Why Would I Want to Become a Mechanical Engineer  I want to become a mechanical Engineer because I have always loved engineering and I have been working on my bike since I was a kid and I am currently on a robotics team at Carson  From my research it sounds like the program they offer is very interesting and challenging
