Your Task Part 1 Each group will receive a poem. Analyze the poem using the TP-CASTT strategy.

Poems “Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening” “To Satch” “Driving to Town Late to Mail a Letter” “Mother to Son” “It Happened in Montgomery”

TP-CASTT Reminder Directions for Title Ponder the title before reading the poem Paraphrase Restate the poem in your own words Connotation Contemplate the poem for word meanings beyond the literal (CHOOSE 2 OR 3 KEY WORDS) Attitude Observe both the speaker’s and the poem’s tone Shift Note the shifts in person, place, and attitude Title Revisited Examine the title again, this time on an interpretive level Theme Determine the message about life implied by the poem

Your Task Part 2 Research the author, subject, and/or historical setting of your poem to help you understand its deeper meaning. Write a summary on your research findings and how it aided you in developing an understanding of the poem and how to present it to an audience.

Your Task Part 3 Prepare the poem for a dramatic presentation by marking the poem with the Inflection Key. Remember, your reading of the poem will help others understand its meaning.

Presentation Options Choral reading: all group members read the poem simultaneously. Reader’s Theatre: Read in turns determined by the poem’s meaning Line by Line: different readers read a line for effect
