Did the Triangular Trade Violate the Navigation Acts?  Yes!  Some British colonist traded directly with Spanish, Dutch and French merchants, but because it was EXTREMEMLY PROFITABLE England practiced the policy of salutary neglect. Salutary neglect- Britain’s unofficial policy to not strictly enforce laws on the colonist because of economic gains

FRANCE AND BRITAIN CLASH OHIO RIVER VALLEY: “TERRITORIAL RACE” What’s All the Big Fuss About?

What is the Ohio River Valley - The area of land between the Appalachian Mountain and the Mississippi River in the Ohio country

Great Britain wanted to expand their territory to the Ohio River Valley  ****Problem**** France is dominating the territory because of the fur trade and trapping business they have developed in America with the help from their allies (friends) Native Americans.

American Colonist take action!  Gov. of Virginia sends George Washington into the Ohio country to tell the French they were trespassing on their territory and must leave.  ****French Response**** Told Washington that they would take possession of that region.

As a result….  Battles begin in 1754 and Great Britain does not officially declare war on France until 1756.

Benjamin Franklin’s Solution Albany Plan Collect taxes Raise Troops Regulate Trade

In 1754 representatives from N.E., N.Y., PA, MD met to discuss the threat of war  Benjamin Franklin develop the Albany Plan which called for 11 of the colonies to form an elected government that would have the power to collect taxes, raise troops, and regulate trade  Problem* NO COLONIES WANTED TO GIVE UP ANY POWER TO UNITE TO FIGHT AGAINST THE FRENCH ALBANY PLAN
