Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, on heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

“against our law” vs. 28 “code of conduct” “It is taboo.”

John 5:8-10 "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured: he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat."

Thoughts for Today Acts is a hinge between life under the Old Covenant and life under the New Covenant.

Thoughts for Today How does God direct His people today?

Primarily through the Scriptures (truth, principles) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16-17

How does God direct His people today? We have the Holy Spirit. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

How does God direct His people today? God works through godly desires. Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. I Timothy 3:1

How does God direct His people today? God works through prayer. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. Philippians 4:6.

How does God direct His people today? God works through providence. Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow....Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." James 4:13-15

How does God direct His people today? Primarily through the Scriptures (truth, principles) Through the Holy Spirit's work upon our consciences Through godly desires Through prayer Through providence

The problem with “God told me” Can you be 100% sure this was God? Sometimes repeating things God has already said in His Word. Often contradict something God has already said in His Word. Avoid taking responsibility for their own actions. A way to shirk the responsibility of real Bible study, of real prayer, of real waiting upon God for His answers.

“I believe God would have me take this step of faith…” “I sense God leading me to…” We live by faith, not by sight II Corinthians 5:7

“Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?” God to Job Job 38:16
